A lovely stylish vintage YVES SAINT LAURENT structured long jacket with bBrandenburg black trimmings from Winter 1994. Handcrafted in wool in vibrant red colour, single-breasted fastening with a large stunning black flower-shaped button. The two pockets are embellished with black Brandenburg trimmings (so YSL) with a few embroidered stars scattered on various places, collar, pocket… It is a well structured silhouette with padded shoulder, a wide shawl collar, it is a mid length hem blazer/coat, a slit at rear and it is fully lined in red fabric. This YSL can be worn as a blazer with trousers, a skirt or with a dress, or simply as a coat. The Story Behind: YVES SAINT LAURENT VARIATION COLLECTION
The Yves Saint Laurent “Variation” COLLECTION was a diffusion, secondary, ready-to-wear collection launched in December 1982. It was created to offer a more accessible, yet high-quality, alternative to the main Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche collection, featuring designs that were often playful or more casual variations of the house’s iconic YVES SAINT LAURENT looks. The YSL Variation collection was launched in December 1982 and this new line-collection was to offer another alternative between the high-end ready-to-wear for a more accessible fashion. The variation collection clothing were often produced with high-quality materials like silk, wool, and cotton. The variation collection often featured signature 80s styles, including bold shoulder jackets, blazer-and-skirt sets, and colourful, artistic prints. The Variation collection was heavily active throughout the 1980s and into the 1990s, with pieces often featuring “Variation” on the label, sometimes indicating a specific season (e.g., “H 94” for “Hiver”-Winter 1994). The Variation collection was reported as “inactive” around 2000, with production plans being phased out around that time. Now days, Yves Saint Laurent Variation pieces from the 1980s and 1990s are highly sought-after collector’s pieces in the vintage preowned second end market.
