The Story Behind: The first full, official men’s collection, named Christian Dior Monsieur, was launched in 1969 by then-creative director Marc Bohan. Many people who could not afford a Dior gown could purchase smaller luxury items made under the Dior name, such as this tie.

From 1958 to 1960 Bohan designed for the Christian Dior, London line. In September 1960, Dior’s creative director Yves Saint Laurent was called up for military service. Marc Bohan was promoted to replace YVES SAINT LAURENT. Christian Dior started making men’s ties in 1950 through a pioneering licensing program. Marc Bohan then became the creative director for Dior during the 1980s, he overseeing the brand’s men’s wear and women’s wear during the entire decade, which was then called “Christian Dior Monsieur”. He was at the helm of the house from 1960 to 1989. “Christian Dior Monsieur”: This was the name of the men’s line during this period. It was launched in 1970, with Bohan as the designer. In 1989 Marc Bohan left Dior, before joining the house of Norman Hartnell in London, where he worked for the label until 1992. Thereafter Marc Bohan designed under his own name until his death in 2023.
