Givenchy – Meghan Markle Wedding Dress

Meghan Markle surprised us when she showed up to her royal wedding wearing a French brand, Givenchy.

Her wedding dress was not vintage but the style was the most classical. But who was Givenchy? Hubert de Givenchy was only 25 when he opened his own couture house in 1952. Training under Schiaparelli and Jacques Fath previously, Givenchy’s greatest influence came from Balenciaga whom he had a close, personal relationship with. Starting in 1954 with the movie Sabrina, Givenchy designed for Audrey Hepburn and he continued to design for her throughout her career, a partnership that developed into a lifelong friendship that influenced style. In 1968 Givenchy started a ready-to-wear line, Givenchy Nouvelle Boutique and in the late 1970s he introduced a Givenchy Sport line.
