In excellent vintage condition with slight signs of wear interior flap, interior leather detachable strap, the gold hardware is in very good condition. Signed HERMÈS PARIS MADE IN FRANCE with the equal sign (=) symbol identifies the leather as Varanus Salvator lizard. Delivered with its detachable strap, a dust-bag and a HERMÈS box.

A rare late 1970s Hermès collectible Lizard black Shoulder handbag-clutch. Handcrafted in rare shiny black Salvator lizard, it has a structured envelope-style with a flap closure, a thin detachable lizard strap, gold tone hardware, closure with a stud button, chain detail on the detached lizard strap on each side. One interior compartment with two slit pockets, one small and one larger. This design is often associated with classic mid 20th century fashion. This beautiful lizard bag is designed to be carried on either the shoulders with the detachable strap or in the hands (a clutch), offering versatility for the evenings, cocktail parties, and for tea-time. The Story Behind: Hermès Lizard Bag
Hermès is making handbags from two types of Lizard skins, Niloticus and Varanus Salvator. In 2004, Hermès also started making Birkins in lizard. Hermès produces lizard bags in two finishes: Shiny (Lisse) and Matte. Shiny lizard bags are polished with an agate stone, a process similar to the treatment of shiny crocodile and alligator skins. This technique ensures the bags maintain their shine for decades without the risk of flaking or wearing away.

Production: Hermès Lizard bags are the rarest. Hermès maintains strict standards for skin quality, and since each bag is handcrafted from a single skin, most lizard bags are produced in smaller sizes, typically 25 centimeters or less.
