A stunning, very rare CHANEL large Iconic camellia flower scarf-shawl. Featuring camellia’s floral pattern with red, white, and green patterns on a yellow background. This type of camellia flower and specifically this variety of camellia with a striped pattern of white and red is sometimes referred to as a “striped camellia” or “candy stripe camellia”. This design philosophy emphasised elegance and simplicity, which has remained largely consistent for CHANEL. A “Must-Have” CHANEL vintage scarf-shawl for a stylish look!

The Story Behind: Coco Gabriel Chanel started using the camellia flower in 1913, when she first pinned a white camellia to her belt. It became an official motif in her collections in the 1920s and officially in 1933. Coco Chanel was drawn to the camellia for several reasons. As a teenager, she was deeply moved by a performance of Alexandre Dumas’s novel ‘La Dame aux Camélias’ (The Lady of the Camellias), in which the heroine wore a white camellia to symbolise her purity and availability. She loved the camellia flower’s for the aesthetic, simplicity, graphic, symmetrical roundness, and purity, which aligned with her own minimalist design philosophy. Furthermore, the camellia has no scent or thorns, meaning it would not compete with her famous perfume, Chanel No. 5, or snag on fabrics. As well as it is a symbolism: In Eastern culture, the white camellia symbolises longevity, purity, and faithfulness, a meaning that appealed to her. She also loved that it bloomed in winter, a season ahead of other flowers, mirroring the forward-looking nature of her designs.
