A rare, collector scarf HERMÈS scarf l’Instruction du Roy in Germanic writing. L’Instruction du Roy scarf design is inspired from a book written by Antoine de Pluvinel, titled l’instruction du Roy: En l’Exercise De Monter a Cheval, Royal Instruction: In The Exercise of Riding A Horse. This scarf was designed by Henri d’Origny, this is the 1993 first edition. A beautiful vibrant pink, gold, orange, grey, multi colour. The Story Behind: HERMÈS L’Instruction Du Roy By Henri D’Origny 1993
L’instruction du Roy, en l’exercice de monter à cheval (instructing the King in the art of horse-riding) was the title given to the work by Antoine de Pluvinel, equerry to Louis XIII, King of France and King of Navarre. De Pluvinel understood, as early as the 17th-century, that when training a horse, “kindness prevails over severity.” He established a riding academy in Paris and wrote this book for the young king…

The inscriptions in Old German or Gothic script found on certain variations or details of the square, like this one, come from engravings by Crispijn van de Passe the Younger. He illustrated the original edition as well as the bilingual French-German versions published in Frankfurt from 1628 onwards to disseminate this art in the German princely courts. Hermès’s subtle nod: On certain reissues or details of the scarf (notably the diagrams of the bits and bridles taken from Crispijn van de Passe’s original plates), Hermès faithfully reproduces the aesthetics of the period. If you own or see a version of this scarf, like this one with Germanic inscriptions (sometimes in old or Gothic script), it is a direct historical reproduction of the 17th-century bilingual manuals used for the instruction of princes.
