The first Gucci Flora scarf was created in 1966 by the artist Vittorio Accornero for Princess Grace of Monaco, a square scarf in silk, featuring an intricate botanical and whimsical design. This scarf was designed by Vittorio Accorneo, it was first designed in 1966 for Princess de Monaco and it was reissued many times. This is the 1990s reissue without border. A off white-cream background with a vibrant multicoloured print about 37 various colour, a high number of colour for printing at the time. The design is a "naturalist's dream" featuring nine distinct bouquets of flowers dedicated to the four seasons, intertwined with berries and various insects. The nine main bouquets consist of lilies, ivy, poppies, cornflowers, daffodils, buttercups (or ranunculus), anemones, tulips, and irises mixed with various insects scattered among the flowers, including butterflies, dragonflies, bees, wasps, beetles, and grasshoppers. The Story Behind: Gucci Artist Vittorio Accornero The “Flora” print has become iconic for Gucci and in the history of textile design. The story is that Rodolfo Gucci commissioned Accornero to design an original scarf as a gift for Princess Grace after she visited the boutique in Milan. Accornero painted nine bouquets of flowers dedicated to the four seasons. The intricate botanical print includes a dragonfly, a grasshopper, a butterfly and beetles throughout the design. The naturalistic artwork is comprised of 37 colours, unheard of for most scarves due to the expense of printing with so many screens.
