This scarf was designed by Leïla Menchari in 1972 and it has been re-issued numerous times since its introduction in 1972 in various border colour in 1990/91, 1993, 1997 and the last edition in 2002 for our latest Queen Elizabeth II for the Golden Jubilee. This one is the first edition in navy blue background with white dense, lush blooms with layers of heavily ruffled bouquet. Depicting a magnificent botanical bouquet of wildflowers, thistle prints, lilies and peonies enhanced with a magnificent gold ribbon surrounded with gold and red colour border. A beautiful collector piece, a classic HERMES design symbolises romance, prosperity and beauty. Will be amazing framed, a "Must-Have" for everyday use and to collect! The Story Behind: Leila Menchari Hermès designer - September 27 - April 4, 2020. Leila Menchari was born on September 27, 1927, in Tunis, she was destined for an illustrious career filled with artistic creativity and grandeur. Her journey into the world of artistry began in the gardens of a villa owned by an American-British couple, Violet and Jean Henson.Here, she met eminent artists like Man Ray, Jean Cocteau and Luchino Visconti, which cemented her determination to walk the path of creativity. Leila Menchari then ventured to Paris, graduating from the École des Beaux-Arts and mingling with bohemian Saint-Germain des Prés artistic community in the 1950s. Her friend and childhood companion, designer Azzedine Alaïa, introduced her to French couture, leading to her becoming a favoured model for Guy Laroche in 1957. This experience honed her understanding of Parisian elegance. In 1961, Leila Menchari life took a turn when she joined the iconic luxury brand, Hermès. Her creative genius was quickly recognised by Annie Beaumel, the in-house decorator of Hermès, who challenged her to “Draw your dreams!” Leila Menchari fantastical, grandiose and oriental dreams materialised as she began designing window displays for Hermès, initially as Beaumel assistant and eventually becoming the lead decorator in 1978.
